Spaulding Library Media Center

The mission of the Spaulding Library Media Center is to prepare students for life-long learning, informed decision making, a love of reading, and the use of information technologies.

Our library program strives to implement the following standards set forth by

The American Association of School Librarians (AASL).

 Standards for the 21st-Century

Learners use skills, resources, & tools to:

   1.  Inquire, think critically, and gain knowledge.

   2.  Draw conclusions, make informed decisions, apply knowledge to  new

        situations, and create new knowledge.

   3. Share knowledge and participate ethically and productively as members

       of our democratic society.

   4.  Persue personal and aesthetic growth

Facility

Our library facility is an inviting and exciting place to be!  With over 11,000 books everyone is sure to find something interesting to read! In addition to books, the library offers magazines for student circulation.  Videos, DVDs, and Book Bags are also offered for classroom use.  Access to the internet is provided through bookmarked sites. Our circulation and catalog system is Destiny.

Circulation

  • Books and periodicals circulate for one week.  During the weekly class visit, Kindergarten and First Grade students may borrow 1 book.  Second Graders may borrow 2.
  • Between scheduled visits students may visit the library to select another book.
  • If a student forgets their library book on their scheduled day they may return it the next day and borrow a new one then.
  • When all students in a class return their books on their library day they may select an extra book that week!

Renewals
Materials may be renewed if they are not on reserve.

Lost or damaged books

Students who lose or damage books beyond repair will be charged the replacement cost of the book. If you want permission for your child to check out books while lost books are being sought please contact Mrs. Heffernan.

Good Choices

The library media center program strives to teach our students to be independent reading consumers.  We encourage students to make selections that a parent/guardian will read to them or one that they can read independently.
